In 2010, IBEW Local 965 began recognizing members and/or retirees for giving back to our communities through volunteering. We have established the "Charlie Award", which is named in recognition of the first recipient, Charlie Wilhelm. Charlie inspired the need to recognize members giving back to our communities through his involvement with Habitat for Humanity and other charitable activities. At the January 2017 Executive Board meeting, Melvin Waugh was chosen as this year's recipient. Melvin is a retiree of Alliant Energy. Melvin has worked as a volunteer for the Poynette, Arlington and Dekorra Food pantries since 2006.His wife was elected President in 2010 and Melvin continues to haul groceries. His volunteer hours have increased to about 10 plus hours a week. His wife has found many jobs for him at the pantry. They have about 30 other volunteers who take a two hour shift once a month to hand out food. They currently give between 90 and 100 boxes of food each month.
We will award another recipient next year. If you know of someone that should be considered, feel free to submit an application or contact the Union office before the January 2018 Executive Board meeting. You are able to submit your own name for consideration.
